How to make Matcha Latte?

Scientists say that this beverage has as much caffeine as half a cup of espresso which has made it an instant hit all around the world. It’s even threatening to replace coffee as your favorite wake-up drink.

It looks just like coffee, only it’s green and it’s actually made of powdered green tea. It’s gotten mega popular lately especially among those who promote healthy lifestyle and nutrition.

The powdered green tea is called Matcha and it literally means “powdered tea”. It’s made from ground green tea leaves and its rich in antioxidants, much more than the regular green tea we know and love.

When you’re drinking matcha you’re drinking the actual leaves which have been finely ground into powder and made into a solution, while when you drink the green tea the leaves are infused with hot water and then discarded.

This is what makes Matcha even better than green tea; one serving of matcha tea has the nutritional equivalent of 10 cups of regular green tea, as well as 137 times more antioxidants.

Even though we’ve started to hear about this amazing beverage just recently, Matcha has been popular in Japan since 1191.

Matcha is made from high quality tea leaves and because we ingest the whole leaves you can assume it’s more powerful than regular green tea. It’s the richest source of antioxidants, called polyphenols which have proven effective against heart problems, cancer, high blood sugar, and have even shown anti-aging properties. Research has shown that the polyphenol EGCG in matcha can boost metabolism and slow down the growth of cancer cells.

As we mentioned earlier, it contains caffeine, a cup of matcha contains almost the same amount of caffeine as a regular cup of brewed coffee. Matcha fans say that unlike the caffeine buzz we get from coffee when we drink matcha we get an alert calmness because of the special substance called l-theanine which makes you feel relaxed without feeling drowsy.

Matcha has a really strong taste so not everyone likes it. Many people compare it to spinach and say it has a pleasant, savory taste. It can be sweetened if you aren’t a fan of the taste, it’ll improve its palatability. Tea experts warn people to be careful when buying matcha because the quality is key. If you buy the low quality variety, which is quite common, you won’t reap all the health benefits it offers.
