Cough and cold are very common ailments that affect almost every human being. Although not life threatening, but it can cause a lot of discomfort and give you sleepless nights. While there are numbers of medicines available that give relief from cold and cough.
The most common complaint is that the medication or syrup tends to put you to sleep or makes you feel drowsy all day long. This is the main reason that many people avoid taking cough syrups.
This has no side effects and has a pleasant and mild taste. Laurel provided a tang of bittersweet taste which along with the acidic lemon and sugar makes the best cold remedy.
- 6 leaves of Laurel
- 5 oz of water (approximately 150 ml)
- 4 tablespoons raw organic honey
- 1 lemon medium size
How to Prepare the Best Cold Remedy
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add the laurel leaves, cover and let it cook for around 6-10 minutes.
In one bowl or container, pour the liquid sans the leaves with the help of a strainer. Now add sugar to the liquid and squeeze the lemon. Make sure you deseed the lemon before squeezing. Mix well to make sure the sugar melts. Your syrup is ready for consumption. Keep it in the refrigerator but must be consumed within 3 days.
The syrup can be taken in doses of 2-3 teaspoons per day to get relief from cough. Even after 3 days if the symptoms exist you can try taking a slice of lemon, just peel and chew it. This is also very effective for dry cough.
Laurel leaves are rich in Vitamin B and aid in better functioning of the nervous and the muscular system. Lemon has vitamin C which fights inflammation. Apart from this Laurel leaves have numerous minerals like potassium, zinc and calcium which are good for maintaining the hormonal balance and ensure good metabolism.
