Under eye bags can come about as a result of the biological aging process of the skin. The tissues and muscles that make up our eye lids become weaker and the skin tends to sag.
This area can also be affected by factors like:
- Liquid retention
- Hormonal changes
- Not getting enough sleep
- Allergies and dermatitis
- Family history
Symptoms of under eye bags
Noticeable inflammation under your eyes is a main sign of under eye bags. However, sometimes, the puffiness is accompanied by:
- Sagging skin
- Dark circles
- Tired and irritated eyes
Natural methods to treat under eye bags
Currently, there are many masks and lotions that work to nourish the skin and reduce the appearance of bags.
However, in general, it is important to keep in mind other methods that can help to complement their effects.
1. Limit salt consumption
Excessive salt consumption can cause liquid retention which causes under eye bags to form.
It is important to avoid adding it to our homemade meals and to limit our consumption of foods that have a lot of it, like:
- Curated cheeses
- Canned foods
- Bakery items
- Fried and packaged foods
2. Sleeping well
Good quality sleep can reduce the tired appearance that the eyes get when we have under eye bags.
Sleeping between 7 and 8 uninterrupted hours a day guarantees good oxygenation of the skin which leaves it fresh and young.
It is a good idea to sleep with your head higher than the rest of your body, this allows for better circulation so that the liquids do not accumulate in this area.
3. Increase your water consumption
Not drinking enough water reduces our body’s ability to eliminate excess liquids, and affects circulation and our skin’s health.
It is important to drink between 6 and 8 glasses of water or healthy drinks a day.
4. Wash with cold water
Washing your face with cold water is great therapy for reactivating blood circulation in the area around your eyes.
This simple method diminishes the appearance of bags and dark circles and leaves the skin hydrated and fresh for longer.
Also, it should be noted that hot water reduces the skin’s natural oils which increases its debilitation and saggy appearance.
5. Apply potato wedges
Potatoes contain anti-inflammatory components that help to decrease the size of under eye bags. Its direct application refreshes our skin and gives us a calming effect that reduces the feeling of tiredness.
Chill some raw potato wedges in the freezer and, when they are frozen, put them over your closed eyes for 5 to 10 minutes.
6. Rub with a spoon
A simple spoon can become a great tool to give your eyes a rejuvenated and fresh appearance.
This element massages the area, activates circulation and firms the skin so that it does not sag.
- Put a couple of spoons in the freezer and, when they are frozen, put them over your closed eyes.
- Massage the area with the bags until the spoon is no longer frozen.
- Try to do this treatment for 5 to 10 minutes to achieve the best results.
